i was thinking...

chloe's blog post got me thinking...

why do i blog?

quite honestly, i think blogging itself is tiring, but for some reason i just cannot stop it.

so why do i blog?

i think it is just to put my thoughts and ideas out there.
but that is the default answer. i guess a better answer, yet a truthful one, would be that compared to most of my peers and friends, i have very different taste.

in music, i tend not to like the typical radio pop, nor the serious rock that most of my pals listen to. instead, i gravitate towards alternative in its true sense, sometimes electronic or dance, and folk. pop is good too, but not like lady gaga, miley cyrus, britney spears, diva pop, but like less materialized pop. i really don't know how to define it, but i hope you understand what i mean. i like indie music that is sweet, and not depressing. as you can see i am definitely one picky person when it comes to music. here are some of my favorite artists to make my whole music tastes more clear:
  • kate nash
  • regina spektor (LOVE)
  • the kooks
  • tegan and sara
  • the cab
  • cute is what we aim for
  • cobra starship
  • death cab for cutie
  • vampire weekend
  • the postal service
  • passion pit
  • owl city
  • reliant k
  • a fine frenzy
  • meiko
well, the whole point of that was to prove that i am quite different from my peers, as they like radio pop, or serious rock. no one has as diverse a taste as me, so i cannot really relate to them. and so when i try to tell them about, for example, a regina spektor song that is stuck in my head, they are like "regina...who?" at that point, i gape at them in utter disbelief...and they just shrug and start talking about, for example, lady gaga or fall out boy instead.

as for fashion, i really hate mixing in with the crowd. last year was my realization year, when i started to understand my true tastes in fashion. while most of my friends were busy trying to be like the typical hollister/abercrombie/aeropostale head-to-toe girls (there is nothing wrong with that...just saying) that my school is so full of, i wanted to be different and wear clashing colors and prints. plus, i was practically the only one in my whole friend circle with more knowledge about the fashion design field, so whenever i tried to share my excitement about a fashion week with one of my friends, they would just nod and smile, which most often means, they don't care, or have no idea what you are talking about, but just want to be polite.

so there it is, the reason i blog. i write my thoughts and ideas and interests here because i know that there are people who feel the same way about some things, somewhere out here in the blogosphere ( i hate to use that term, but had to...sorry!). i can relate to them, they can relate to me, and there are no awkward moments. all in all (it sounds like i am writing the conclusion of a really bad essay), since no one in the real world listens to me, or relates to me, or knows what i am talking about, i rant here.

that being said, i feel like i have been trying way too hard to try and fit in with the blogging world (which totally goes against my philosophy of going with the crowd), so from now on, no more outfit posts. only because there is no point, i feel, in putting up what i wear for the world to see, plus i am not very comfortable putting up pictures of myself on the web...i just did so before because i was trying to fit in, and that was quite dumb of me.

and from now on, i am going to blog about whatever (fashion/music/random/etc...) not caring about what attracts readers or commenters. i stopped caring. if people like what i say, then YAY...if not, then ok, it's all cool in da pool...i might, sometime down the road, make this blog private, but we shall see.

anyways...yep, that is pretty much it.

will be back soon.

  7. I definitely think about why I blog a lot, too. It's so important to blog for yourself rather than other people. Getting readers and comments is fun, but creating something you are proud of is more important.

BTW You have great taste in music. Regina Spektor is my favorite right now, but Cobra Starship has been my guilty pleasure lately...

Also, have you heard of Lenka? You might like her music - it's very sweet and cute and happy, but not flaky. idk, check it out.

  9. I blog for very much the same reason, that I have "unique" tastes, in that I don't share with others around me. I do however, enjoy most of the bands that you do.
