major disappointment

I went back-to-school shopping today, mainly to spend all my birthday gift cards, and buy some nice stuff to wear. Well, as the title so wonderfully gives away, it was a total disappointment.

We ended up going to two malls. The first one was so confusing, that I failed to find anything I liked. I just snagged two pullover sweaters (in white and blue), but was very upset that I couldn't find anything I wanted.

I was preparing for this shopping trip, researching all summer, and finalizing a list of things to buy. Remember that list I made two posts ago? I could find none of those things. Forever 21 and Heritage 1981 were both at the first mall, but I failed to find the sequin shorts, the patterned leggings and mini, or the cobwebby tights. Both stores were so outdated (compared to the website) that I left the mall with a lot of anger bubbling inside me. Actually, Forever 21 had a military style jacket that I really liked, but the store only had smalls. Because of my long torso, I need at least a medium in tops.

With a little bit of hope left in me, I went to H&M, found the sequin leggings, but there was only one pair, and that too in an XL size. I was going to explode.

Soon I got tired of the first mall, and left for the second mall. I was a bit excited about this one because it has American Apparel, and I had my American Apparel gift card. Plus, I was more accustomed to the second mall, therefore, I knew my way through the H&M at this mall better.

The minute we got to the mall, I made a beeline to H&M, and scanned the place for the sequined leggings. After failing to find them, I began to browse for this dusty salmon colored shiny windbreaker-ish jacket that I saw online. Imagine my excitement when I found it...I squealed with excitement. I found my size too; it was just too good to be true! But then I saw the price: $35 dollars. Not bad, I know, but then the material and the thickness (or lack of) was just not worth the money. Once again, I was disappointed. What seemed to look cozy and warm in the H&M style guide was actually nylony and cold to the touch in real life. Why did this have to happen to me?

In fact, I was so upset that I barely cared about the Urban Outfitters (I was only there once before, so I was excited about going to it today...but not when I was actually at the mall), and didn't even notice the sale prices (my mom told me about them in the car on the way home -_-).

After my friend was done at UO, we made our way to the American Apparel store. I wanted this velour sweater, but when I asked the employee, she said they didn't carry the item anymore. GAH. So I ended up getting just a t-shirt, and my mom got a coin purse thing. But before making the purchase, I was thinking about the circle vest, and went hunting for it. As I was on the hunt, my friend tapped me on the shoulder. I turned around to see her wearing it, wondering if she should get it. I told her to, because she seemed to like it so much. When I went back to see if there was another one, there was, but not in the color i wanted. Cursing at my horrible fate, I painfully watched her happily purchase it.

So that is my tale of woe, the story about my much anticipated, but totally disappointing shopping trip. What did I learn from this experience? Going shopping with a purpose always turns out to be a disaster for me. But, this has to be the WORST one yet.

  4. I understand your pain. Like you, I have so much trouble finding anything I like, in my size....and for a reasonable or worthwhile price. I end up returning at least half of the stuff I buy...its terrible really.

  6. ohh sorry hun :( I swear this always happens to me too - I always find so many things I want, but when I can actually afford it and go shopping, I almost never find anything. On the plus side, you can still save your gift cards & who knows you might find something even better next time!
